What we collect
Account information: When you sign up, we store your email address and a hashed version of your password. We also store your phone number and any display name you choose to add.
Dog profiles: Everything you enter about your dog, name, photo, breed, birthday, weight, medications, vet contacts, behavioral notes, and anything else you want your sitter to know.
Care routines and stays: The schedules, tasks, and instructions you build for your sitter, plus the dates and details of each stay.
Emergency contacts: Names and phone numbers you add so sitters can reach someone in an emergency.
Preferences: Whether you've opted in to receive marketing emails, and your home timezone so we can show times correctly.
Basic technical data: Your browser type and basic device info so the app works properly. We detect your timezone from your browser to make scheduling easier.
What we use it for
We use your data to run the service: generating the checklists your sitter sees, keeping schedules in the right timezone, and making sure the right people can access the right stays.
We use your email for account security and to send you transactional messages like password resets. If you opt in to marketing emails, we send occasional product updates, never more than a few times a month, and you can unsubscribe anytime.
We do not sell your data. We do not show ads.
Who can see it
Your dog's information and stay details are visible only to people who have that stay's private share link. You control who you share it with, usually just your sitter.
There are no public profiles and nothing is searchable. Someone would need the exact link you generate to see anything about your dog.
Third parties
We use Lovable Cloud for hosting and database infrastructure. That means your data is stored on their underlying cloud infrastructure, which handles it on our behalf under strict processing agreements.
We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third party for their own purposes.
Data retention & deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete individual dogs, stays, or routines at any time from the app. You can also delete your entire account from the Account page, which permanently removes your profile and all associated data.
If you ever want us to delete something we don't have a self-serve button for, email us at privacy@handoff.dog and we'll take care of it.
Security
Stay links are long, random, and unguessable, like a strong password. We also use row-level access controls so that even within our own systems, data is only accessible to the right people. All connections to Handoff are encrypted with HTTPS.
Children
Handoff is for people 18 and older. It's not designed for children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe we have, please contact us and we'll remove it immediately.
Marketing emails
We only send marketing emails if you explicitly opt in. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and we'll honor your request within a few days. Account and security emails, like password resets, are separate and cannot be unsubscribed from, because you need them to use the service.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service grows. When we do, we'll change the date at the top and note any material changes. If we make a significant change to how we use your data, we'll also email you if we have your address.
